Galgos And Podencos As Pets

Galgos and Podencos are Spanish sighthounds used for hunting. These beautiful gentle hounds suffer needlessly in Spain at the end of the hunting season. Their keepers often kill them in gruesome and inhumane ways that are too distressing to detail on this website. If you are interested in finding out more, please google “galgos in Spain” to find links to the various galgo welfare websites.

Galgos and Podencos make wonderful pets and most adapt to life in a home with ease. Most of them can live happily with cats and children, and the rescues we have links to will gladly recommend a dog that fits your lifestyle. They range from very small to greyhound size and can be smooth coated or rough.

In January 2012 the pet passport rules are being relaxed which will make it easier to adopt one of these lovely dogs if you live in the UK.
