Sam PuppyBack to Hounds Needing Homes
- Living In Foster
- 18 Weeks Old
- Special Home Needed
Sam is the greyhound in our "Save Sam Appeal" - he is just 16 weeks old and he needs very expensive surgery to save him. One of his back legs is deformed and his owner cannot pay for the surgery needed to make him better. If a rescue dosn't pick up the bills then he will be put to sleep. We do not know what route the vet will take at the moment - it may be surgery or it may be amputation, but we have to give him the chance of a life.
The plan is to get the initial xrays done in Ireland (he is still with his owner) so we know what we face. Then make him well enough to travel. Once in the UK he will have surgery. We need to raise at least £3000 to save him - more if he has complex surgery. You can help us save his life by donating here http://kentgreyhoundrescue.charitycheckout.co.uk
If everyone donates a small amount we can together help save Sam.
Once in the UK Sam will need a foster home - preferably in Kent. You must be willing to follow through his aftercare, crate him if necessary and be able to transport him to the vets. If you think you may be able to foster him please contact us. If we can bring him into KGR and save him he will be with us mid February.
UPDATE 8th Feb 17
Thank you to everyone who has donated - he is a gorgeous dog and really deserves the chance of life that you are giving him.
Sam is has been to few specialist vets in the past few weeks. The first was very negative, so Sam went to see another on 1st February. This vet was much more positive and keen to come up with a solution for Sam. He did say his problems were unique and most vets would never come across such a condition during their career. So as at today the vet in Galway is discussing 3 medical options with another specialist vet in Dublin regarding one of the options and Noel Fitzpatrick regarding the others. He may need to wait until he is older to have surgery – that is something the vets are discussing.
It looks as though it will be a long complicated road to recovery for Sam but he has so much support and love. He is currently in a foster home in Ireland – the latest picture is of him roaching so we know he is happy and relaxed.
Please make sure you are in a position to adopt a dog, before completing the online adoption form. We are unable to hold onto dogs for more than a few days, once you have passed your homecheck.
We do rehome throughout the UK, so long as you are prepared to travel to meet the dog within a few days of applying for him and then again to adopt him, once you have passed your homecheck.
