Summer Newsletter

Summer news from KGRs newly appointed Editor-In-Chief – HRH The Dora of Kent (Greyhound Rescue)

Our Summer dog show date and location have changed – from Saturday 7th on Hythe Green to Sunday 22nd September

A news update and why we have changed the date.

Summer 2019 was fabulous  – so much fun, lots of dogs rehomed and lots of testing weather!

This is our 3rd summer with HRH Dora and she is still looking for a new home – she may be gorgeous but she is naughty and very strong willed!  So we have given her a new job to keep her brain working. She is quite famous and you can follow her antics online on our facebook page.

As you all know, KGR receives no money from the people who either raced or worked, then abandoned, our dogs – so our volunteers go out every weekend to raise both funds and awareness and to find homes for our amazing dogs.  We love being out in public meeting everyone and chatting “dog”as we meet lots of great new people, who go onto to rehome a dog from us.  It is also very reassuring to hear how many people now support the anti racing campaign, because they now know how bad the industry really is.

Thanks to the great British weather our August fundraising was an absolute disaster – our first Country Show weekend was tough due to freak storms and weather warnings – then the next weekend at Tractorfest (one of our busiest weekends of the year) was partly rained off with freak, unexpected, weather – then as a reminder than rain and wind are not so bad, our next County Show over the bank holiday weekend was dangerously hot so we had to pull out.  So we have all seasons in one month – then just when you think we have put it all behind us – our summer dog show on Saturday 7th is scheduled to be severely affected by the closure of the M20 (both ways all weekend)  with a 55 mile detour to Hythe and congested back roads.  We have had to cancel this show and change the date and location.

We might be wind swept, drenched, cold then too hot but we are not defeatists so we have moved the date to Sunday 22nd September and moved the location to the Chilham Village Hall.  If the weather is nice we will hold the dog show outside.

KGR Summer Fun Dog Show – Sunday 22nd September 2019

We will be selling hot and cold sandwiches, cakes, teas and coffees plus (weather dependant)  sausage bobbing, doggies games in the dog show interval, tombola, raffle and our pop up shop selling everything you need for your greyhound and lurcher (and other breeds) – coats, rain macs, fleece jackets, knitted jumpers, lots of tried and tested greyhound and lurcher approved toys, harnesses, muzzles, leads, collars, raised feeders, beds, mats, dental products and lots mores – this is a great opportunity to come along and see what we sell in our online shop, try on for size and see the options.  And of course, help us raise more funds to save more dogs.
