Kent Greyhound Rescue works tirelessly throughout the year to ensure our dogs are well cared for and looked after. However, Christmas can be challenging, as some of our dogs are still waiting for their forever homes. We want to ensure all our dogs feel loved and special this season.
Kent Greyhound Rescue is run entirely by volunteers. Throughout the year, our dedicated team gets to know each dog, understands their unique needs, and matches them with suitable families. We are proud to be a 100% volunteer-led organisation.
Sadly, we often witness shocking cases of neglect, cruelty, and mistreatment of animals. We do everything possible to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome these dogs.
Christmas is a special time of year, and we want to ensure our kennel dogs feel just as special. Here are some of the festive activities we organise during the season:
Christmas Dinners
We treat our kennel dogs to an authentic, homemade Christmas dinner every Christmas. Our volunteers cook and serve a proper Christmas lunch with turkey, Yorkshire puddings, potatoes, and vegetables. It’s a joyous event; we have so much fun doing it!
We share photos of this annual lunch on our Facebook page so you can see the dogs enjoying their festive feast.
For just £5.99, you can sponsor a KGR homeless kennel dog’s Christmas dinner. This makes a fantastic stocking filler or gift for someone who loves greyhounds and lurchers.
The recipient will love knowing that a kennel hound has feasted on a roast dinner this Christmas, and the dog will love knowing someone cares for them (even after they’ve devoured the turkey).
In return, you’ll receive a card to give to family and friends as a thoughtful present.
Christmas Stockings
We also ask for donations from our supporters to help fill Christmas stockings for our dogs. These stockings are filled with treats, toys, and other goodies to bring joy to our furry friends.
Our hounds receive stockings over Christmas, allowing them to open their gifts and enjoy a moment of happiness.

Toys
The dogs love octopus toys—they’re perfect for cuddling up in their kennel beds at night.
Homemade Dog Biscuits
For a £5 donation, one of our volunteers will bake a large batch of homemade dog biscuits to give to the kennel dogs. This little treat makes them very happy!
Wormer and Flea Treatments
Many of our dogs arrive infested with fleas and worms. Each dog needs to be treated to make them healthy and comfortable.
Coats
Help keep our dogs warm this winter with a snug, waterproof coat. A size 28 coat fits most of our dogs.
Harnesses and Double Leads
When they first arrive, many of our dogs are scared and unfamiliar with the world outside the kennels. To walk them safely, we always need harnesses and double leads.
Thank you for your support during this time. To see the joy you’ve brought to our hounds this Christmas, follow us on Facebook and Instagram!
Kent Greyhound Shop
Everyone at Kent Greyhound Rescue is a volunteer (no one is paid). So when you buy from our shop, you are directly helping us save more lives. All profits from the shop help KGR rescue, rehabilitate and rehome more greyhounds, lurchers, whippets, galgos, or podencos. We get no funding from the racing industry, so our online shop allows us to continue our work.
