Meet the Lovable Bull Lurcher – Your New Best Friend Awaits!

8 Reasons Why Bull Lurchers Make Amazing Pets

Bull lurchers are normally a cross between a staffy (or occasionally a French bulldog, mastiff or boxer) and a greyhound (or a whippet). It might seem like an odd match until you’ve met one! They are:

a) 50% fat head – staffy’s are one of the most popular breeds in the UK.  These eternal puppies make great family dogs that are loyal, energetic, patient, and wriggly lovable lumps.

b) 50% pointy nose – we all love those lazy, quiet, affectionate greyhounds or fast, funny whippets.

A cross between these two breeds makes a truly funny and fabulous pet. Subject to some important warnings/conditions/advisories:

1.  They will love to sit on your knee, even if they are far too large.  Luckily, they are not as bony as a greyhound!

2.  Typically, they will love all humans and be confident (without a doubt) that the feeling is mutual. Some bull lurchers get visibly sad when ignored, and their owners must be ready to console them if this happens.

3.  They will have a most fabulous wriggly butt that will miraculously find every ornament in your home.

4. They will have mastered the gummy staffy smile and will keep you to your exercise commitments by sitting by his lead, grinning and doing star jumps. Bull lurchers typically love their walkies, and some even love to run (your social life).

5.  After his exercise, your adult bull lurcher will sleep and sleep, preferably next to you or perhaps upside down in the sun, snoring peacefully. They will inspire you to help them become a new Instagram sensation, and you will be embarrassed by your camera roll.

6.  They will make a great nurse and love caring for his humans.  Legend has it that bull lurchers can write sick notes, but we can confirm they will love a duvet day and happily enjoy sleeping and eating soup and ice cream.

7. When talking about food, you will observe that the plural of the word ‘lurchers’ is derived from the word ‘lunches’. New lurcher owners need to keep food out of reach in the kitchen, or they will help themselves to a snack.

8. They will cling to puppy privileges for his whole  life, and you will forever need to remind them that ‘you are too big to do that…’,  ‘you won’t fit there…’,

Number 8 almost repeats Number 1.  Please don’t say we didn’t tell you!

Finally, do consider rehoming one of our rescued lurchers. They are all different and will have varying training requirements, but it is such an excellent way to help a homeless hound with the added bonus of avoiding the puppy (land shark) stage.

These amazing dogs quickly become an important part of the family. Bull lurcher owners will need to love cuddles, enjoy long walks, and be able to work at home a lot of the time.
