Animal Aid and KGR: Working Together to End Greyhound Racing

Earlier this year, we were contacted by Animal Aid to support their powerful new campaign to end greyhound racing in Britain.

As an anti-racing charity, this cause sits very close to our hearts.

Every year, greyhounds continue to suffer at the hands of the racing industry — and in 2024, one dog died every three days as a direct result of racing. Despite these shocking statistics, racing still continues in nine countries worldwide, including four tracks here in the UK.

Forcing dogs to race is widely recognised as cruel. Dogs are routinely injured — and too often die — as a result of racing or are discarded for heartbreaking reasons, such as failing to meet ‘adequate’ qualification times. Many unwanted dogs have even been shot or drowned, written off as mere ‘wastage’.

Beyond the cruelty to animals, the greyhound racing industry is also costly to taxpayers and deeply linked to gambling-related social harms, including addiction, crime, and homelessness.

A National Campaign for Change

Animal Aid’s nationwide campaign shone a spotlight on these issues through:

  • Advertising across the London Underground
  • Marches throughout the UK
  • A strong social media presence

All with one goal — to raise awareness of the realities faced by greyhounds and to push for lasting change.

Animal Aid’s message was clear:

“We are campaigning to ban greyhound racing in Britain, and later in the year, we will be launching a public awareness campaign focusing on the dogs who have left the industry and their stories. We believe this campaign must be led by the amazing organisations such as yourselves who work day in, day out, rescuing and rehoming these amazing dogs.”

KGR’s Involvement

We were proud to support this campaign — more than we even realised!

Not only did one of our volunteers and her two ex-KGR greyhounds take part, but we were thrilled (and completely surprised!) to spot two of our very own ex-KGR dogs, Sidney (white and black) and Molly (black), featured in the campaign. Their beautiful faces appeared across London Underground stations — a truly emotional moment for all of us at KGR.

A huge thank you goes to all our ex-KGR greyhounds who represented KGR and helped make this possible.

Their images also featured in videos on Facebook, and the campaign continues to spread awareness.

Join the Movement

The campaign is still running — and you can sign the petition today to help end greyhound racing for good.

If you’re able to join a march, share the campaign online, or start a conversation, please do. Every action helps to raise awareness and move us closer to a world where greyhounds are no longer exploited for racing.

We’re so proud to see former KGR dogs helping to drive real change for their fellow hounds.

Together, we can make a difference — for every greyhound, both on and off the track.
