Spooky

Spooky — affectionately known as Spooky Wooky by his foster family — is a very special greyhound who has come such a long way. When he first arrived, he was deeply traumatised by the changes in his life and found it very hard to be around humans after living safely behind kennel gates.

During his first weeks in foster care, Spooky was so frightened that he chose to live in the garage, where he felt warm, safe, and comfortable, with access to the garden. Gradually, he found his confidence and ventured into the house — and once he realised that the other dogs lived there too, he decided to stay. Spooky adores the company of other dogs and they’ve played a big part in helping him feel secure.

In his first few months in foster care, Spooky has become braver and more trusting every single day. At first, he wanted to be close but would flinch or move away if you touched or spoke to him. Now, he’s realised that humans are kind — and that love, scratches, and cuddles feel pretty wonderful! He’s even started doing roaches and big, happy stretches at home — a sure sign that he’s feeling safe, relaxed, and content.  Now – 5 months on, all he wants to do is cuddle into his human or go for a walk with them.

Although he looks older, Spooky has only just turned four (in September). He’s begun showing his playful, silly side — spinning around, playing, and clearly enjoying life.

Spooky recently went on holiday with his foster family, where he joined them for café trips, pub visits, and long walks. He took it all in his stride and absolutely loved it. This boy has transformed — and now he’s ready for a loving forever home of his own.

Even though Spooky is much more confident now, he will still need special adopters who can continue his gentle rehabilitation and give him the time and patience he needs to fully trust. He’ll thrive in a home with other dogs for companionship and reassurance. You might not see his full personality at your first meeting, but if you trust the process, you’ll be rewarded a thousand times over with his love and loyalty.

We’re looking for very special people to open their hearts to Spooky and continue the amazing progress his foster family has started. The “3-3-3 rule” for dogs refers to a guideline stating that it typically takes a newly adopted dog:

3 days to decompress after the change in his environment and the stress of having a new home and new owners.

3 weeks to start learning routines and bonding with their new family.

3 months to finally settle in and feel comfortable in their new home.

Spooky has a European pet passport so can be rehomed outside the UK so long as you can travel to us to meet and collect her (we don’t transport/deliver) and we can arrange a home check in your area.
