Well, it is just 4 weeks from today until Christmas Day! In case you are thinking of adopting a greyhound or lurcher shortly, this is advance warning to let you know we will be closed for rehoming from 18th December 2023 until 3rd January 2024.
You will be able to meet our hounds up until 18th December and reserve them, but unless you are having a very quiet Christmas and New Year you won’t be able to take the greyhound or lurcher home until 3rd January.
Kent Greyhound Rescue has this policy in place to allow your new dog to settle into a calmer, more normal environment, which is better for all concerned.
It is important to remember that some Christmas and festive foods that you enjoy are dangerous for your dogs so its essential to keep the human food out of reach (yes, we all know sighthounds are incredibly tall when they stretch up onto worktops!). Please make sure your mince pies, chocolates, Christmas pudding and cakes, turkey bones, alcohol etc are safely shut away. The last thing anyone wants is a poorly dog over the winter holidays.

With cold weather forecast we also have an excellent range of coats, fleeces and pyjamas to keep your greyhound, lurcher, whippet or any sighthound nice, smart, snug and dry. These special dogs often have such thin coats so they need that extra help to keep them warm and happy. They quite often will wake at night if cold, so fleeces and pyjamas are ideal.
