Including Your Dog in Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love on 14th February, marked by cards, flowers, chocolates, gifts or a meal out with a loved one.

A day dedicated to love is the perfect occasion to include our dogs and celebrate the unconditional love they show us every day! They may not appreciate a card (unless it’s to tear up!), but there are plenty of ways you can make the day special.

Please remember that chocolate is toxic to dogs, so keep any chocolate gifts out of the way of those long snoots.

Making Valentine’s Day special with your dog:

You may already have plans that include your dog, such as going for a nice walk, stopping for a coffee, or going to the pub for a drink. If you are cooking something special, you could include dog-safe foods to share with your four-legged friends. You may prefer to do something separate with them instead.

Most dogs love spending time with us, but is there anything in particular that your dog gets really excited about?  If your dog enjoys going in the car, why not drive somewhere for their morning walk? If they love to sniff on a walk, why not forget about the physical exercise and instead spend the time letting them sniff to their heart’s content!

Why not make them special Valentine’s treats if they are a massive foodie? We are sure they will be more than willing to help! Some of our volunteers will be baking personalised Valentine’s cookies for our KGR dogs. Keep an eye on our social media for updates.

Some of our KGR dogs have shared their ideal Valentine’s Day date if you are struggling for ideas. Hopefully, they will experience these in their forever home next year.

Luna – an evening on the sofa watching TV with endless cuddles and kisses

Jerry – a quiet night tucked up by a warm fire getting head rubs and treats

Nuala & Harry – these two best friends would love a long walk in the countryside

Boo – a walk along the seafront followed by some yummy fish and chips

Yew – a new toy to add to his toy box, you can never have too many

Gizmo – having a city break, sniffing everything and saying hi to everyone

Molly – baking some yummy biscuits (and maybe sharing with her friends)

If your dog is like Yew and would love a new toy, we have lots to choose from on our online store.

However you choose to celebrate, we hope you have a special day!
