Treat your dog to a tasty doughnut to celebrate National Doughnut Day!
There may be days dedicated to pretty much everything but one celebration we couldn’t let pass was doughnut day! Doughnut day is on the first Friday of June each year, this year it falls on Friday 7th.
Doughnuts are a firm favourite treat for us humans so why not let some of our dogs to try them as well?
Dog Safe Doughnuts
The doughnuts that we are used to enjoying aren’t particularly healthy for our dogs, they are full of sugar and can contain ingredients that are poisonous to them. There may already be dog doughnuts on the market that you can buy pre-made, however if you’d like to cook some from scratch, you can follow the recipe below.
We chose to make carrot based doughnuts, with a thin layer of pate and some ham and sausage on top, but this can be tailored to your dog’s favourite foods. The carrot could be swapped for cheese and the topping could be chicken or even sardines. There are loads of different options, you could even chose to do a few!

There are a lot of different doughnut mould but we used the silicone ones as they were easy to remove the doughnuts once cooked (you can get them on Amazon here).

Ingredients:
Method:
Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and then spoon the mixture into the moulds. If the mixture is a little too thick, then add a bit of water. The doughnuts do raise a bit so best to only fill ¾ of the way, there should be enough mixture to make 8-9.
Place the mould on a baking tray for stability and cook in a pre heated over at 180 degrees for 15 – 20 minutes.
Once cool, you can add the topping of your choice. The doughnuts are freezable so you can put some in the freezer before adding a topping.
While you are baking, you might find some 4 legged helpers appear! We had Jerry and his foster brother and sister helping in the kitchen and volunteered to help taste test.
Keep an eye out on our social media to see what some of our dogs thought of the treat. We are on:
