Kent Greyhound Rescue has recently held a fantastic company charity day in partnership with an amazing charity, In Kind Direct, and consumer goods manufacturer Kimberly-Clark. Our dogs (and all the participating humans) loved it!
Founded by King Charles III, In Kind Direct distributes new donated usable consumer goods from manufacturers and retailers to British charities. Working with Kimberly-Clark (which manufactures well-known brands such as Kleenex tissues, Andrex toilet paper and Huggies diapers), In Kind Direct has not only donated lots of useful Kimberly-Clark items to KGR but also helped the company organise a volunteering day for our rescue.
The Kimberly-Clark team spent a day at the KGR kennels providing much needed companionship to our rescue hounds – walking them, playing with them and making a fuss of them, which our dogs absolutely loved. It was also of great help to our regular volunteers, and was a fun day out for everyone involved!
We had two very stressed young lurchers in the kennels at the time, Sean and Rosie, and two guys from the Kimberly-Clark team spent two hours playing football with them in the kennel paddocks – and what a difference it made! Sean and Rosie had a blast chasing the ball and playing, their stress levels dropped, their behaviour improved, they calmed down. A small act of kindness had a huge impact. We are happy to report that both lurchers have now been successfully rehomed, in no small part thanks to the two people who donated their time and energy to kicking the ball around with them.
The volunteers also took our dogs on a walk around the beautiful Kent countryside, helping the dogs to socialise, practice walking on the lead, and enjoy human company. Fresh air, nature, sunshine, walking and, of course, greyhounds – it doesn’t get better than that!
We are very grateful to In Kind Direct and Kimberly-Clark for their time and effort, and we welcome companies of all sizes to have a volunteering day with us. There is a range of activities available, including dog walking, washing and grooming, playing with dogs, helping out in the kennels, and more. It’s a great day out and a team-building exercise – and it’s all for a good cause.
Group sizes can vary from two people up to 20, and various volunteering options are available all year round.
