Do Dogs Need Jackets?
We’re often asked if dogs need extra layers when the weather turns cold. The answer is yes! Just like us, dogs can get chilly in cold weather. Some dog breeds are more sensitive to low temperatures. For instance, sighthounds wear cosy jackets and sweaters that keep them warm and stylish.
When Should Dogs Wear Jackets?
It’s a good idea for dogs to wear an extra layer when the temperature is around 10°C or lower. Be careful—if it drops to about 5°C or less, your dog could get very cold, leading to severe issues like hypothermia or frostbite if it doesn’t have enough warmth. Dogs also need extra layers to keep them dry if it’s rainy or wet outside.
How can I tell if my dog is cold?
If you see your dog shaking or shivering, that’s a sign they’re feeling cold and could use a jacket.
How do I make my dog more comfortable at night?
It’s essential to ensure your dog stays comfortable and warm during bedtime. Consider purchasing cosy fleece pyjamas designed for dogs; these can provide an extra layer of insulation and help maintain their body heat.
