Bay

Our volunteers have given Bay a gold star, they say he’s perfect! He is a sleek gentle hound with a heart of gold.  Affectionate, snuggly, playful, and always ready for a cuddle — or a well-deserved snooze — this handsome hound is ready to find his forever home. 

Here’s Bay’s highlights and observations about his life in foster care:

❤️ Sofa expert (I may have rolled off it once… but let’s not dwell on that!)
❤️ Apple slices are a delicacy
❤️ Calm when left on my own, but keen to inspect your shopping bags when you get home.
❤️ Happy in a flat, but houses with stairs are just fine too.
❤️ Long walks, short walks… I don’t mind, as long as I’m walking with you.
❤️ I answer to “Bay”, “Bay Bay”, and “Good Boy” (my personal favourite!)
❤️ Busy traffic? No problem. I take it all in my long stride.

• Expert snuggler
• Walk like a supermodel, lounge like a potato
• Sweet-natured, playful and always eager to please
• Completely obsessed with my toys — I carry them from room to room, then go back to collect the ones I’ve missed

Before Bay moved into foster care, he spent time in kennels, so some everyday household sights and sounds may still feel new, confusing or a little worrying for him. He’ll need gentle introductions to things like hoovers, TVs and busy home life, along with plenty of reassurance as he learns that he’s safe. With time, patience and understanding, Bay will blossom into a wonderful companion, ready to share life’s adventures with you.

In the early days of adoption, it’s your responsibility to keep Bay safe by keeping his world small and calm. Take things slowly and gently build up to more exciting experiences – too much, too soon can be overwhelming and may make the adoption harder for him.

Please remember to stay calm and relaxed throughout this settling-in period. If you feel anxious or stressed, Bay is likely to feel the same. Greyhounds are incredibly sensitive, emotional souls and are very good at picking up on our moods.

Before applying to adopt, please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the 3-3-3 rule. This is some of the best advice available to help a new dog settle successfully into their new home.

3 days – In the first three days, your dog may feel scared, anxious or overwhelmed. He may also test boundaries as he tries to understand his new environment.

3 weeks – After around three weeks, he should start to feel more settled and become familiar with his routine. This is often when his personality begins to shine through.

3 months – By three months, your new dog will truly understand that this is his home. He’ll feel relaxed, secure and trusting, and much more like himself.
