Ivy is the sweetest dog you could wish to meet – she is perfect in the home, and all she wants is to be loved and be with her family.  She is crate trained and she can be left for 3 or 4 hours. Ivy loves her walks but she also really enjoys her rest and sleep, so if you go out, she has another nap.  In 99% of ways she is the easiest dog ever – and she will reward you 100xs over with her love and cuddles.
She has lived in foster as an only dog and she has also lived with other dogs – male and female and she is fine with them.
She would really suit being a city girl – she likes people and noise more than being with other dogs in a park, so think the pub, a walk around the shops, stopping for coffee – but she could equally live a rural life if you didn’t live in an area with a lot of annoying off lead dogs, who will bother her.  She loves football and messing around with water – so a great help when you water the plants!

Ivy is a small lurcher who has been with us for quite some time.  We have done a lot of work with her and she really is now ready to find her own forever home.   She is small but you will have to be able to control her when out.  For any normal strength/size person or couple this is easy, as she is small and light but she may not suit an older couple who are looking for a small dog to tootle around the park with.  She loves her adventures, and she is such fun,  but she equally loves her home life and she will be great as an office dog – sitting next to you whilst you work.

When we say you will need to able to control her – we mean you will need to be willing and able to follow the advice we give.  She is never going to be a dog that you can take to the park with 100s of off leads dogs running about.  She panics.  She can be walked around the streets – she can go to the pub and she will sit on the sofa giving you cuddles all day.    Will she ever be able to be in the park?  this depends on her owners and how much effort they put into making it work.  How much they think she is worth it?  So maybe,  but if you assume not – then you know what to expect.  ( as opposed to us saying all of this and you thinking it will be all ok, then returning her after a few weeks).

What is Ivy’s crime?  Put simply, she is scared of some other dogs – those dogs whose owners allow them to just run over to her on a extendable lead or off lead – even though it’s clear you have moved her to the side asking them to be responsible. She panics, but she is easy to reassure and she gets over it the second she passes by.  If the dog ignores her, she feels safe and will just walk past.  You can see from her photos that she goes out and about and enjoys a really normal life – and when we are walking the greyhounds we pass many more dogs much worse than her who have loving families.   You can also see her with her foster family – as one of the gang  she is even friends with Dora, and that is quite something as she can be a bossy ratbag!
You could always hire a field for her for 30 mins, if you think she needs to run off lead.
Ivy is very loyal so with the right owners and more training she will get so much better outside – she just needs someone to invest time and love into her.  This is her poem written by her foster mum who adores her.
Let me tell you about Ivy,
Well, where shall I start?
She’s beautiful, loyal, inquisitive, smart.
She has bundles of energy
And loves a long walk.
She listens intently whenever you talk.
If you call out her name,
She’ll head straight for you,
And is keen to do whatever you ask her to do.
Playing ball will give you and her so much joy,
But she’ll drive you insane with her squeaky toy.
She must have a clock inside of her head,
Because at 10pm she’s ready for bed,
Where she sleeps soundly until the morn,
Beside her fluffy, pink unicorn.
With people she is such a good, friendly girl,
But 4 legged creatures send her in a whirl.
She pulls and she barks, which can cause some alarm,
And requires training and patience to help her stay calm.
Could you find a space in your heart and your home?
So Ivy doesn’t have to spend her life alone.
