Susie

Susie is a lovely girl – she looks all beaten up and she has clearly had a very tough past – but she adores people, she loves other dogs and she is just a very gentle sweet dog.  She is around 3-4 years old and she lives in a foster home with other dogs.  Please remember lurchers are not as lazy as greyhounds, and they do need someone around more.  Susie would lobe to be an only dog so she can get all of your attention and cuddles.

Before going into foster care, Susie lived in an outdoor kennels, so some everyday household sights and sounds may still feel new, confusing or a little worrying. She’ll need gentle introductions to things like hoovers, TVs and busy home life, along with plenty of reassurance as she learns that she’s safe. With time, patience and understanding, she will blossom into a wonderful companion, ready to share life’s adventures with you.

In the early days of adoption, it’s your responsibility to keep Susie safe by keeping her world small and calm. Take things slowly and gently build up to more exciting experiences – too much, too soon can be overwhelming and may make the adoption harder.

Please remember to stay calm and relaxed throughout this settling-in period. If you feel anxious or stressed, then your new dog is likely to feel the same. Greyhounds & lurchers are incredibly sensitive, emotional souls and are very good at picking up on our moods.

3 days – In the first three days, your dog may feel scared, anxious or overwhelmed. He may also test boundaries as he tries to understand his new environment.

3 weeks – After around three weeks, he should start to feel more settled and become familiar with his routine. This is often when his personality begins to shine through.

3 months – By three months, your new dog will understand that this is his home. He’ll feel relaxed, secure and trusting, and much more like himself.
