Toad

Lovely Toad is just 2 years old! This handsome hound is already melting hearts with his dreamy brown eyes and sweet nature.

He has never raced and he is one of the dogs who falls outside the industry statistics – we know who his mum is but in the stats she has not given birth to him. It is unclear where he has been for the past 2 years.

What we do know is that Toad is a very good boy who is embracing his new life. He’s currently living in foster care with another sighthound, and is a good companion. Toad enjoys copying his foster “brother” and is eager to join in once he sees all the fun he’s missing out on.

Toad is also happily embracing all the food that comes his way. His foster family say they haven’t found any food yet that Toad dislikes, but his absolute favourite is a croissant… a sweet treat for a sweet boy!

Lovely Toad always greets you with a happy tail. Once he’s had his fusses though, this clever boy is back off to bed to snooze off all that excitement! He loves the quiet life, and prefers gentle walks. He walks beautifully on the lead and he greets other dogs politely. Toad is learning to play and would love his future adopter to help him grow his confidence to bring out his silly side!

With his gentle nature, and irresistible good looks, Toad has so much to offer and is ready to begin his next chapter with a home of his very own.

Before moving into foster care Toad spent time in kennels, so some everyday household sights and sounds may still feel new, confusing or a little worrying for him. He’ll need gentle introductions to things like hoovers, TVs and busy home life, along with plenty of reassurance as he learns that he’s safe. With time, patience and understanding, Toad will blossom into a wonderful companion, ready to share life’s adventures with you.

In the early days of adoption, it’s your responsibility to keep him safe by keeping his world small and calm. Take things slowly and gently build up to more exciting experiences – too much, too soon can be overwhelming and may make the adoption harder for him.

Please remember to stay calm and relaxed throughout this settling-in period. If you feel anxious or stressed, then your new dog is likely to feel the same. Greyhounds are incredibly sensitive, emotional souls and are very good at picking up on our moods.

Before applying to adopt, please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the 3-3-3 rule. This is some of the best advice available to help a new dog settle successfully into their new home.

3 days – In the first three days, your dog may feel scared, anxious or overwhelmed. He may also test boundaries as he tries to understand his new environment.

3 weeks – After around three weeks, he should start to feel more settled and become familiar with his routine. This is often when his personality begins to shine through.

3 months – By three months, your new dog will truly understand that this is his home. He’ll feel relaxed, secure and trusting, and much more like himself.
